Simplicity and Success clearly outlines skills, stories and simple yet powerful organizing framework can help you simplify life — and create what most matters.
It can help you slow down, relax, and reflect on how you most want to live and work—and relate to the natural world from which all material and spiritual wealth arise.
And it can show you how the bring into being the life and work you long for—easily, efficiently and enjoyably.
When we set a goal, we typically focus only on what “we can do right” in order to accomplish it. If we set a goal to lose weight, we focus on adding the right behaviors more than getting rid of the wrong behaviors. Instead of eating less bad food, we focus on spending more time in the gym. We think that “doing more” is always the best solution.

About This Workshop
Having a purpose in life is one of the most fundamental human needs. However, for most people, finding their purpose in life is not obvious. Modern life has a way of distracting people from their true goals and many people find it hard to define their purpose in life. Especially at younger ages, people are searching for meaning in life, but this has been found to be unrelated to actually finding meaning. Oftentimes, people experience pressure to have a “perfect” life and show the world how well they are doing, instead of following up on their deep-felt values and passions. Consequently, people may need a more structured way of finding meaning, e.g., via an intervention. In this paper, we discuss evidence-based ways of finding purpose, via a process that we call “life crafting.” This process fits within positive psychology and the salutogenesis framework – an approach focusing on factors that support human health and well-being, instead of factors that cause disease.
I have had many mentors in my life. I'm constantly asked by younger people how to find mentors and what to do once you think you've encountered one. I also wrote about how to develop a relationship with a mentor, which you can read here.
Equally as important as finding a mentor is knowing what his or her role is in your life. Sallie Krawcheck, the former Wall Street banker and now CEO of Ellevate, calls this your personal board of directors. Not all mentors are created equal. It would be unfair and an inefficient use of their time if you treated each mentor exactly the same. I have some mentors I speak to every day; others I contact once every few months. Knowing how you use people's time, skills, and knowledge is critical in nurturing and prolonging that relationship.
